‘Intermission: Defense Build and Admins.’
Inside the accelerated game, in a zone no player could reach…
The game admins were monitoring the event, on the lookout for any bugs.
A horrified shriek echoed across the room.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaauuughhh! Silver Wings died!”
Everyone turned to stare at him.
“Huh? Silver Wings? But that was designed to be unbeatable!”
“Yeah, it was jammed full of high-DPS skills, ridiculous HP and MP, high stats across the board. The thing’s basically an embodiment of our spite.”
“Who took it out?!”
“Pulling up the feed…”
He fiddled with the controls and put the video on-screen.
A giant bird with glittering white wings.
Facing a girl in black armor and a girl in blue.
“Maple?! Seriously?! Even she shouldn’t stand a chance against Silver Wings, though!”
“She’s not mobile enough! I could see her taking on the earth dragon, but…”
But even as they denied it, the battle was unfolding before their eyes.
“Those chunks aren’t… Well, I guess we should’ve seen that coming.”
“Her defense is too broken.”
The admins were all keeping one eye on their main work and the other on the screen.
They very quickly discovered the problem.
“I see what’s going on! The blue girl is Maple’s mobility!”
On-screen, Maple was warping around the map with Cover Move.
They had not expected this.
All eyes were on-screen now.
“Her name’s Sally. Agility focused, lots of skills, but nothing super developed yet. Only really powerful skills are Mirage and Oceanic.”
One admin had pulled up Sally’s stats.
“She’s pretty normal, really? I mean, anyone would be, compared to Maple.”
“You can say that again.”
An awkward chuckle went around the room.
But it was soon clear how abnormal Sally was.
“…I take it back. She’s nuts. Maybe even more broken than Maple.”
“She doesn’t have precog skills, right?!”
“Nope, not a one.”
On-screen, Sally was avoiding Silver Wings’s attacks like no human ever could.
Moving like she had psychic powers telling her where the next attack would be.
“How is she doing that?!”
“I couldn’t slip through that gap if I stopped time!”
They watched the rest of the fight in stunned horror.
Then someone gasped.
“Crap! They’ve taken the Mythical Eggs!”
“What’s in them?”
“A fox and a turtle. Not…the worst…”
“The bird and the wolf are…?”
“With the Sea Emperor. It’s set so those only spawn there… They should be fine…”
“You’d absolutely need some fancy tricks to have any chance of getting those.” Someone sighed, slumping back in their chair. “Ugh…I can’t believe it. And after we nerfed her!”
“Anyone with a second to spare, double-check all the medal exchange skills! Anything that seems remotely open to abuse!”
““On it!””
“……………Why don’t we just make them the last boss?”
“Yeah…she kinda already is…”
Their voices sounded exhausted.
But of course, Maple and Sally would never know this conversation had taken place.
